MAY 2016

SMALL TALK

MEMORY VERSE: “Two people are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do.” Ecclesiastes 4:9, NIrV

KEY QUESTION: WHO GIVES YOU GOOD FRIENDS?

BASIC TRUTH: GOD MADE ME.

BOTTOM LINE:   GOD GIVES ME GOOD FRIENDS.

PARENT ACTIVITIES

MORNING TIME: This month let your child wake up to, “Good morning! Today is a great day to be a good friend!” Throughout the day, help your child look for ways he can be a good friend.

PLAY TIME: Gather 10 different small objects and get 2 of each object for a total of 20 objects. (2 crayons, 2 spoons, 2 shoes, 2 clothespins, 2 gloves, 2 socks, etc.) Place one of each object in a small bucket or basket for

your child to hold. Hide the other 10 objects in the yard or a large room. Tell your child to try and find the match to all of the things in his basket. When

he’s done, talk about how God gives us friends because two are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do.

CAR TIME: God made us to praise Him. So, this month, when you get in the car, turn your drive time into praise time! You can turn up the music and sing to the Lord or look out the window and thank God for things God made or simply pray together before you leave and when you get home.

BATH TIME: Take turns saying this month’s Bible verse as you bathe your child. But don’t just say the verse. Think of a different way you can help others each time you say it, and add it to the end of the verse. You could say, “Two are better than one. They can help each other [clean their room].” How many different ways can you help others and be a good friend?

CUDDLE TIME: Cuddle up with your child and pray. “Dear God, thank You for such a fun day praising You! Thank You for music, singing, and dancing and for making us to praise You. You are so amazing and wonderful and I hope (name of child) and I never stop praising You. Thank You for loving us with a love that lasts forever. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

PARENT TIME: This month our preschoolers are learning that they are “Better Together.” That is to say that when we have friends with whom we can do life, we are better people. So, whom are you “doing life with?” Do you have people that can not only help you when you’re down but celebrate victories with you too? Whom do you call when you get a promotion at work or need a ride to the airport? The Bible tells us that we were designed to be in relationships with others. We weren’t designed to do life by ourselves. Who are you surrounding yourself with to make sure you’re not alone? If you are looking for that sense of community, see what types of groups your church offers. Or, look for a Bible study or playgroup in your neighborhood. You could even investigate serving either at your church or another non-profit. Great

community is created when we work together for others. Because, we are better together.
