Lessons for the Month of November!

MEMORY VERSE: “The plans of the Lord stand firm forever.” Psalm 33:11, NIV

MORNING TIME: As you wake your child up this month, talk about your plan for the

day. Remind them that God made them and has a plan for them.

PLAY TIME: Give your child some paper and crayons. Encourage him to draw

a picture of your family. Write the names of each family member under their picture.

Talk about how our family is a part of God’s plan for us, just like Joseph’s family was a part of God’s plan for him. Tell your child two ways we can show love to our family is to forgive them and help them when they need it, just like Joseph did.

CAR TIME: Each time you get in the car this month, talk about the “plan” before

you take off. Where are you going? What do you need to get done? What time do

you need to be home? When you get home, talk about how your plan went. Did you get everything done? Did your plans change any while you were away? Tell your child that God made him and has a plan for his life. And God’s plan is always best!

BATH TIME: Add shaving cream to bath time this week. Encourage your child to

make things with it while he plays in the tub. The edge of the tub and the surface

of the water are great places to let his creations sit or float. Trees, clouds, dinosaurs … anything is possible with the imaginations God gave us! Remind your child that God made everything, including your child! God has a plan for all that He makes.

CUDDLE TIME: Cuddle up with your child and pray: “Dear God, You have great plans for

(name of child). Help her do what You say and trust Your plan for her life. Things

might not always go like she wants them to but we know You will use it for good, just like You did with Joseph. Thank You for loving us. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

PARENT TIME: This month, our preschoolers are hearing the story of Joseph. It shows us that God

has a plan for each and every one of us. Even when we are in the pit of despair, we can trust that God has a plan for us. We probably won’t understand the plan during those dark moments, but we can trust that it’s there. God not only has a plan for your preschooler’s life, but He has one for you too. If you’ve never read the story of Joseph, take some time to read it this month. (Start in Genesis 37.) As you read, think about how your life parallels with his. Hopefully, you’ve never been literally thrown in a pit, but you’ve probably experienced something equally traumatic. And, just when it looks like Joseph’s life is looking up, things take a turn for the worse, and he ends up in jail. Have you ever had such a turn? Now, think about how those turns in your past have affected your present. Did you learn and grow in those times? Has God used that time in the past? If He hasn’t yet, He will someday. God has a plan for your life just as He had one for Joseph’s. We just need to trust it.

WEEK 1/November 1, 2015 / GENESIS 37:1-4; GENESIS 1:26-27

Joseph’s father gives him a colorful coat to show how special he is. God made us all special.

WEEK 2/ November 8, 2015/ GENESIS 37; JEREMIAH 1:5

Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery and he is taken far from his home to a foreign land. But, it’s all part of God’s plan for Joseph. God has a plan for us too.

WEEK 3/ November 15, 2015/ GENESIS 39-40; PROVERBS 4:11-12

Joseph is accused of a crime he did not commit and is put in jail. Joseph trusted God even when it was hard. We can trust God’s plan even when it’s hard too.

WEEK 4/ November 22, 2015/ GENESIS 41; EPHESIANS 2:10

God places Joseph in charge over all of Egypt and helps him save food for the people. This was God’s plan all along – for Joseph to save the people. We are all a part of God’s plan too.

WEEK 5/ November 29, 2015/ GENESIS 42-45; PSALM 16:11

Joseph forgives his brothers and takes care of them after being separated for many years. Looking back at Joseph’s story, we can see that God’s plan is always best.
