SMALL TALK

MEMORY VERSE: “My God will meet all your needs.” Philippians 4:19, NIV

KEY QUESTION: WHO LOVES YOU?

BASIC TRUTH: GOD MADE ME. GOD LOVES ME. JESUS WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND FOREVER.

BOTTOM LINE:   GOD LOVES ME.

PARENT ACTIVITIES

MORNING TIME: As you wake your preschooler every day throughout this month, gently

cover their face with a blanket or stuffed animal and then take it away and say, “Peek a boo, God will take care of you!” As the month progresses let them do it to you too.

PLAY TIME: Use toy crowns or make some out of construction paper. Pretend to be

kings and queens and have a royal dinner party. As you eat, tell your child that God will take care of him just like he took care of Esther.

CAR TIME: God gives us people who help us. We see a lot of these people as we drive around town. Police officers, grocery clerks, mail carriers, coaches, construction workers—it’s a long list! Talk with your child this month about the people who help you. See if you can spot them as you drive in your car. When you see one, name the person, say what they do, and thank God for them!

BATH TIME: Add some plastic measuring cups, a bowl, a mixing spoon, and bubble

bath to bath time. Show your child how to scoop, pour, and stir the bubbles. Encourage him to pretend to cook you a yummy meal in the tub. Talk about how God takes care of us and gives us what we need.

CUDDLE TIME: Cuddle up with your child and pray: “Dear God, thank You for taking such

good care of us. Everywhere we look we can see You taking care of us. Our food, water,

clothes, house, family, friends—it all comes from You! Help us remember that You are always with us and will take care of us. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

PARENT TIME: This month we are teaching our preschoolers that God will take care of them. God will meet their needs. God will be there when they’re happy. God will be there when they’re sad. God will be there. That’s a hard concept for little people since they can’t see God. Do you know who they can see? You. They see you each and every day.

Your preschoolers see you when they wake up. They see you when they go to bed. They see you when they’re hungry, sad, tired, joyful and excited. They see you. And, through you, they learn what God is like. When you are there, they are learning that God is there. When you are patient and kind, they are learning that God is patient and kind. When you take care of them, they are learning that God will take care of them. Of course, we as parents and guardians are not God, and we must rely on Him for the strength to parent each and every day. Let your preschoolers see that God will take care of you so that you can take care of them. God will take care of all of us—preschoolers and parents alike.
